Librarian's Corner

Librarianship is an evolving field staying in step and sometimes ahead of current information and technological trends i.e. virtual reference librarians, instructional librarianship using multimedia platforms and devices and 'social media" (Burns, 2011), classroom instruction researching web-based resources and database, to name a few.  To be effective in a web 2.0 environment, librarians are searching for new ways to best use etechnologies and social media while averting their pitfalls.

Librarians are also blending skillsets from knowledge and experiences gained in other disciplines/fields of study to enhance their effectiveness as library science professionals.

What are your thoughts on librarianship? As a student of library science? As a student/professional with other educational and professional skills and knowledge?

About Me

I have a B.A. in linguistic studies, a minor in French language and culture, and a M.Ed. in educational leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Prior to that, I earned a certificate in site development from the USAF. Currently, I'm pursuing a MLIS at San Jose State University. From my experiences, I discovered that knowledge of other disciplines is helpful in academics, the workplace, and life in general. With that in mind, I created this blog for a friendly venue for grad students to collaborate, share ideas, and gain incite from other students pursuing higher degrees in a friendly respectful online environment. I hope you sign on, read others' comments, and share your experiences and thoughts.
